I have conducted two interviews with local painters.

joel murry is a member of Boxcar gallery. he agreed to talk with me about his process and style. Lidsey wilson is a Metro artist who uses the projector when making her paintings. I will them both:
why they use the process that they do.
how much do they value stlye and unique mark making?
What are the major intentions of their artwirk?
and
How they think that artist tools affect the final look of a piece of art?

presentation plan

I am going to start by defining diffrent qualities of art, primarily the difference between experience and illusion. Showing that painters and draftsman are creators of impressive illusions the next step is to reveal the tools available to artists. I have chosen Van Gogh, Chuck Close, Lucian Freud, and Marcel Duchamp as artists who exercise different sides of my arguement. I will show examples of their work letting the audience decide if they favor gridding and tracing over the mistakes cretaed in freehand drawing.

since i have started this assignment I have learned how to use the internet to collect relivant and reliable source material. I read a couple journals pertaining to art theory and art process. Seeing how artist use the technologies available has given me a wider understanding of my topic. balancing the pros and cons of tracing projections is an inprovable topic yet I am enjoying the objectivity of it.
To finish I need to gather all of my refrence material together and map out my arguement. I have gone both ways on this topic so I need to sharpen my focus. before next week I need to add images to my text and finalize my major arguements. I also need to properlycite my sources in paper and in the bib. I might also need to shorten some of my paragraphs becasue my draft is already over three six hundred words.

This class was a struggle for me yet a positive experience. I am computer illiterate and had little interest in improving my computer skills. I thought that computers were incredibly useful yet I felt that they are not very scholarly and spread inaccurate information. Now I have been exposed to more legitimate sources and useful technologies.
The site that I intend to use the most is 180slides. Presentations are common in school and having a centralized location for my slide shows is invaluable. I look forward to using this site again as it is easily used and helpful.
The Internet is amazingly helpful and this class has shown me a lot of useful things. I hope that I will be able to keep adding other sites and services during my time at metro. even though my grade suffered from being unable to use the computer I am happy with what I have learned and plan to use it in the remainder of my career here.

Thesis: While artists tools such as drawing aids and projections fueled the success of the Renaissance and gave birth to "hyper realistic" painting they reduce the mark of the artist and lessen the individuality and humanity of visual art.

Arguement: One impactful quality of visual art is the pressance of the artists within the technique and formal approach to its creation. Using tools that increase the percesion of the rendering remove the personality of the art work. While able to create photolikeness, I believe that these tools reduce the empathetic impact by softening the artists hand. When working freehand expression is unavoidable even in tight renderings. Uniqueness and, what Walter Benjamin refers to as the "Aura" of visual art, is threatened by the technologies of the twenteth century.

Sitelike says that it is monitored and updated so that the content is up to date. As a free service Sitelike is a good way to group websites and research topics. I have been involved in the art community for the last eight years. while at first, I was full of self doubt and frustration I have since realized the value of an arts education. I see art theory and fine art in general as a form of practiced philosophy. In this course I plan to right my paper on the function of art in the new millennium. I will pull from source that I came across in "art theory and criticism" and "Art of the Twenty and Twenty first century". I feel that art theory serves as a valuable additive to philosophy of consciousness, psychology, and sociology. Art and the artistic process can illuminate the subjectivity of perception and give tangibility to academic theories.
